Inspired by vinyl’s water resistance, the team explored welding the material together to create plant-holding pockets and systems of tubes for a hydroponic plant growing wall. The themes of industry and ecology combine to create a unique product that represents both the process of the manufacturer and the spirit of the reclaimed materials.

Abigail’s Backpack: Simple forms and oversized hardware are utilized functionally as well as aesthetically to create a backpack that parallels King Bag’s own materials and processes.

Caroline’s Backpack: Welding and layering experiments with different types of vinyl informed the construction methods of this backpack. The transparent and mesh vinyl swatches specifically were used in unconventional ways, inspiring the aesthetic and creating focal points on the bag, such as the exterior side pockets and the top flap.
