G.E. Manufacturing Process

GE PICTURE 3.JPG

Two types of additive manufacturing are used to produce complex parts at general electric, direct laser printing and electron beam printing. For this project section 001 utilized the electron beam printers and learned the steps it takes to produce 3d printed metal parts from start to finish.

Laser Beam

The laser beam melts the metal powder as per the design, layer by layer.

Support Structures

Support structures are used in case of nonuniform structures that can not stand on their own, as well as to prevent thermal distortion.

Additive Printing

Metal powder is continued to be poured layer by layer as the laser beam melts the metal to form the additive printed single part.
