Our end table was created using generative design to produce an organic base that contrasts with the galvanized industrial table top. This piece utilizes generative design to create an organic and seemingly unpredictable work of sculpture. The contrast between the strict and precise form expected from a computer generated program and the alien, fluid design created by the program result in a splendidly unexpected piece of furniture
Our standing height table is a series of purposeful failures that resulted in perfect, patterned parabola forms. This standing table is created as a result of predicted failure. The concept of ‘predictable failure’ is an oxymoron which opens up a conversation about what can truly be considered failure. With this table, we explored how minute changes can make a massive difference.
Our coffee table demonstrates the materiality and capability of large-scale 3D printing with a complex base made out of support material without the material being supported. It is too often that we do not acknowledge the importance and precision of the program generated material that helps bring our products to life. Showcasing the internals of this basic form allowed us to highlight the compelling detail that lies within the products that otherwise are unseen.
